Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the Original Series Bike+ have auto-resistance?
Peloton lists an auto-resistance option as well as manual knob control. The page does not establish that every class supports it or give a numeric resistance-level total; check the exact workout and current support terms.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the refurbished purchase the same offer as renting the Bike+?
No. The refurbished purchase lists All-Access separately and final-sale terms after delivery, while the current rental page describes Rental Membership and cycling shoes as included, with a lease and return process. Check current checkout and contract wording because the product page repeats conflicting generic membership copy.
Can the refurbished or rented Bike+ be assumed repaired under the recall?
No. CPSC recall 26-067 is for PL02 units with T-prefix serials. Public offer pages show neither the delivered frame serial nor a seat-post replacement record. Verify the unit and any required remedy before use.
Will a rental arrive new or refurbished?
Peloton says rental inventory is a mix of new and refurbished bikes. The public page does not identify the delivered frame or its serial. Ask about the specific unit and review its lease, warranty and recall-remedy documentation.
Peloton · Original Series · PL02 model-family assessment
Peloton's Original Series Bike+ is a previous-generation indoor cycle and is not the current Cross Training Bike+. This assessment uses the manufacturer's current refurbished-purchase and rental pages, serial/history guidance and the CPSC recall notice. I have not ridden, owned or tested the bike. The family is identifiable as CPSC model PL02, but neither the refurb offer nor the rental page gives a physical unit's serial or a seat-post repair record. The page therefore describes the model and acquisition paths without clearing a particular bike for use.
What distinguishes the Original Series Bike+
Peloton lists a 23.8-inch Full HD touchscreen that rotates through 360 degrees, an adjustable seat and handlebar, front-facing speakers with rear woofers, and an option for workout-cued auto-resistance. The knob can also be used for manual control. The current product page does not state a total number of resistance levels, so a hard numeric resistance requirement cannot be checked from this source. Automatic adjustment is a Peloton feature; it is not evidence of compatibility with a third-party cycling app or a guarantee that every class supports the mode you want.
The published body dimensions are 59 inches long by 22 inches wide by 59 inches high, and Peloton lists the bike at 140 pounds. Its product page gives a rider-height range of 4 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 4 inches and a 297-pound maximum. These figures are not a comfort or medical-fit guarantee. Plan for the full route into the room and for enough open space around the bike to mount, dismount and use the rotating screen; the listed footprint alone is not a room-clearance plan. The display's rotation can support off-bike workouts, but separate weights are not included according to the product page.
Pedals, screen and membership
The aluminum pedals require cycling shoes with Delta-compatible cleats. Check whether footwear is included in the exact purchase package and whether every intended rider has a compatible pair. The page lists Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and USB-C charging, but it does not confirm FTMS or a named non-Peloton training app. Treat those as unconfirmed until Peloton documents support for the exact hardware and app combination.
For the refurbished purchase path, Peloton labels All-Access Membership as separate and says the service is required for its full content and applicable hardware features. The rental path is different: the current rental page describes Peloton Rental Membership as included with the monthly rental. Some product-page copy repeats a generic All-Access-separate label near the rent selector, so read the current rental checkout and signed agreement for the controlling fee and entitlements rather than assuming the two paths have identical membership terms.
Refurbished purchase and rental are different offers
Peloton describes the refurbished purchase as pre-owned equipment that is inspected, repaired and tested, with a limited warranty. It states that refurbished orders can be canceled before delivery but are final once delivered and are not eligible for the 30-day home trial or returns. A refurbishment programme description is not an itemized service history for a specific frame. Confirm the precise model label, package, seller, warranty and any parts or repair documentation before accepting a purchase.
The separate rental page says cycling shoes and Peloton Rental Membership are included, shows a one-time delivery fee, describes professional setup, and says a renter may cancel or buy out with free pickup. It limits eligibility to Members in the continental United States; local delivery restrictions and actual lease terms still matter. Peloton says rental inventory is a mix of new and refurbished bikes, but it does not identify the unit that will arrive. This is not a promise that a rental is new or that a particular refurbished bike has a specific repair history.
Seat-post recall: no individual Bike+ clearance from the offer page
CPSC recall 26-067 identifies Original Series Bike+ model PL02 units with serial numbers beginning with “T.” The notice warns that the seat-post assembly can break and directs affected owners to stop using the bike and request Peloton's free replacement seat post. Peloton places Bike/Bike+ serials on the frame, not merely on the touchscreen, and its History Summary requires the equipment serial. Ask for the actual frame serial and verify recall applicability and any required replacement before riding or taking ownership.
The manufacturer describes refurb and rental inspection, repair and testing at programme level, but the public offer supplies no unit-level serial or proof of a PL02 seat-post remedy. Since the CPSC recall is serial-specific, I cannot say that a particular refurb or rental frame is affected, unaffected or repaired. This PL02 assessment is consequently reference-only and does not create a purchase match. If the seller or rental provider cannot establish the delivered unit and required remedy, do not treat the model-family photo or general quality process as recall clearance.
Who should consider this generation
On paper, the Original Series Bike+ suits someone who specifically wants a rotating built-in display and optional instructor-cued resistance in a studio-style format. Its tradeoffs are the Delta-cleat pedal requirement, subscription or lease terms, unconfirmed external-app support and substantial listed weight. The refurbished sale also has stricter return terms than a typical home-trial offer. Compare it only after checking the serial, repair status, exact package, current terms and the room where it will live.
Do not borrow specifications from the newer Cross Training Bike+; it is a separate model with different published dimensions, weight and features. The images on this page depict the Original Series Bike+ model family, not the exact refurbished or rented frame. If you cannot check the physical unit and remedy, use the finder to compare other reviewed indoor cycles instead of treating a current offer as a safe, verified individual bike.
